Cat people see a cat belonging to a total stranger, six time zones away, and immediately go, “Well, that’s my baby now.” We have one policy and it is: cat spotted, heart claimed.

I love your cat. I love my neighbor’s cat. I love your neighbor’s cat, assuming it exists, which statistically feels safe. I love the random cat online with no name, no context, and a face that suggests it has been caught committing tax fraud. We all do.
